2024 Premier League Season: Previewing All 20 Clubs

The English Premier League kicks off on Friday, so here's a look at all 20 clubs in what's poised to be another entertaining fixture.

Last year, the English Premier League came down to the final day of the season for only the ninth time. The 2024/25 campaign is poised to follow a similar script. Manchester City edged out Arsenal by two points winning its sixth title in seven seasons, but the Gunners and the rest of the top six have hit the transfer market in a quest to end Pep Guardiola’s reign at the top of English soccer.

Below we’ve provided a quick hit on each of the 20 Premier League teams ahead of the season. Team-by-Team Premier League Preview

AFC Bournemouth: Coming off a 48-point season and 12th place finish, the vibes are high for the Cherries. But leading goalscorer Dominic Solanke was sold to Tottenham, so replacing his 19 goals will be a challenge for Andoni Iraola’s squad.

Arsenal: Under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have progressed year by year. The club’s depth continues to improve. With the signing of versatile defender Ricardo Calafiori, and the return of Jurrien Timber, the PL’s best defense who conceded a league low 29 goals will be formidable. If their core of star players stay injury free, the Gunners will be right there at the end of the season.

Aston Villa: Having secured a spot in the Champions League finishing fourth last season, Unai Emery has brought style back to Villa Park. To prepare for the extra fixtures, Villa have invested in great signings like Amadou Onana, Ian Maatsen and Ross Barkley. You can expect continued growth from Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey, so Villa will once again be pushing for the top four.

Brentford: It was a disappointing season for Brentford last year. Star striker Ivan Toney’s suspension, coupled with his desire to leave the club, made for a bit of drama for the Bees. But with their replacement striker Igor Thiago sidelined until the end of the year, Thomas Frank is in a tough spot. He’ll have to keep Toney, and be in a fight to stay up for the majority of the season.

Brighton: The Seagulls new manager, Fabian Hurzeler, is youngest-ever in the Premier League and will be tasked with taking a talented group to the top half of the table. Brighton won’t have to worry about the extra fixtures from European football which should help them focus on the task at hand. Returning players Kaoru Mitoma, Simon Adingra and Joao Pedro give them plenty of creativity, but they will have to replace seasoned midfield veteran Pascal Gross, who left for Bundesliga giant Borussia Dortmund.

Chelsea: Following a rough year at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea hope new manager Enzo Maresca can harness all the talent the club has acquired since American owner Todd Boehly took over. The club has easily spent over one billion dollars in the transfer market since 2022, including over $200 million this summer thanks to the signing of Wolves winger Pedro Neto. The Blues have been riddled with injuries and player turnover and now on their fifth manager since the takeover, Maresca will hope to unify the squad that has plenty of talent, but is still a bit disjointed.

Crystal Palace: Palace rattled off six victories in its last seven matches last season which has fans excited for the 2024 campaign. The club sold Michael Olise to Bayern Munich for over $50 million, and could possibly lose centerback Marc Guhi to Newcastle. Attacker Eberiche Eze is also being eyed by Manchester City but as long as the England international and striker Jean-Philippe Mateta stays with the club, the Eagles will have a chance.

Everton: After 132 years, Everton will play its final season at Goodison Park before the move to the new Bramley-Moore Dock next year. Manager Sean Dyche has kept Everton up after multiple point deductions and poor play. Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has had consistent injury issues which has plagued Everton’s offensive output. New additions Iliman Ndiaye and Jesper Lindstrøm will be crucial, and should they contribute, it should be a less stressful season for the Toffees.

Fulham: Going into last season, vibes were low at Craven Cottage after losing Aleksandar Mitrovic. But Marco Silva did well and had a good run before struggling to close the season. The addition of Emile Smith-Rowe will give the midfield some needed creativity as the club look to build upon their 13th place finish, and finish in the top half this season.

Ipswich Town: Ipswich Town are back in the Premier League after back-to-back seasons earning promotion. The club is the odds-on favorite to get relegated, but it’s always fun to have some new blood in the league. It’s been 22 years since the Tractor Boys have been in the top flight. The club will hope Liam Delap, a Manchester City academy graduate, develops and proves to be worth the $20+ million tag.

Leicester City: The Foxes are back in the Premier League after a one year hiatus. The club did lose their manager to Chelsea, and have appointed former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper. This team is not even thinking about relegation. The 2015/16 Champions are looking to secure their place as a club that belongs in the Premier League.

Liverpool: For the first time since 2015, a new man is at the helm of Liverpool Football Club. Arne Slot will have the tough task of following up Jurgen Klopp who led The Reds to an unforgettable nine-year run of success and trophies. As of this writing, Liverpool have not done any business. The style will still focus on possession, but will likely be more tactical than improvisational. Still, expecting Slot to win the league against the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City in his first year is a tall task. Liverpool are back in the Champions League and must stay there with a top for finish this season.

Manchester City: There’s not much else to say about the defending champions. It seems the club will lose attacker Julian Alvarez, but added young Brazilian winger Savinho, who will be fun to watch. There have been rumors about Kevin De Bruyne and Goalkeeper Ederson leaving the club to Saudi Arabia, but until that happens, this team is loaded. They’ll look to continue their domination in the Premier League while advancing deep in the Champions League and other competitions.

Manchester United: After finishing eighth, Manchester United are in for a important season under Erik ten Hag. The club has made two big signings in Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, but the latter suffered an injury along with striker Rasmus Hojlund. This is a tough bout of luck for the club, but the team has to push for the top four this season and show progress.

Newcastle: There’s a lot of transfer rumblings around Newcastle ahead of the season. After a top four finish two years ago, Eddie Howe’s bunch finished a disappointing seventh last year. Top players like Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak could be on the way out, but if they stay and the club adds a couple other pieces, then Newcastle has plenty of firepower to be in the top four.

Nottingham Forest: Last season, Forest’s 32 points were the lowest ever tallied by a team that survived relegation. The four point deduction didn’t help, but in the end Nuno Espirito Santo kept the club in England’s top flight. The club added two nice pieces in Nikola Milenkovic and Jota Silva and will hope wingers Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi continue to cause havoc on counter attacks. They will need strikers Taiwo Awoniyi Chris Wood to be more clinical in front of goal, and with Morgan Gibbs-White, the team should have enough to stay up.

Southampton: Like Leicester, Southampton returns to the Premier League after one season in the Championship. The club has been active in the transfer window adding seven players. Staying up is the number one goal for the Saints.

Tottenham: Spurs were a true rollercoaster last year. New manager Ange Postecoglou quickly earned everyone’s praises with a quick start to the season before erratic results struck the club. In the end, Spurs had a chance at top four but finished two points behind Aston Villa. Signing Archie Grey from Leeds has the club buzzing, but the arrival of Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke was the biggest move. Solanke scored 19 goals last season and now gives Heung Min Son a true striker to link with. This seems like a do-or-die year for Postecoglou, as he tries to cement himself as the manager for years to come.

West Ham: It’s a new era for the Hammers. David Moyes served the club valiantly and even brought them a European trophy, winning the Conference League in 2022. Now Julen Lopetegui, who has an impressive resume, will take the lead in London. Signings like Crysencio Summerville, Maximilian Kilman and Niclas Fulkrug have the fans excited. Along with Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus, the team has firepower. It’s just up to Lopetegui to exploit it.

Wolves: Fans will hope two under Gary O'Neil is a little less chaotic than year one. O’Neil was hired just four days before Wolves' first Premier League game last season, and the club surged into the top half of the table. But the end of the season only saw his squad get five points in their last ten matches. Losing Maximilian Kilman to West Ham and Pedro Neto to Chelsea hurts, but Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan are still dangerous.
