Taylor Swift Slings Into the Football Season: Best Reactions
Taylor Swift has taken the NFL by storm (and vice versa). Here's a look at some of the best social content around the Chiefs' new biggest fan.
It’s not clear if pop superstar Taylor Swift is actually dating Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce. But regardless, her sudden interest in the NFL has sparked at least one love-affair: the broadcasters and camera-operators covering the Sunday Night Football games she’s attended have quickly become diehard Swifties.
The NFL’s swift descent into Taylor-mania has resulted in more than a little backlash. Sports Illustrated said that “NBC embarrassed itself” with its near-constant coverage of her luxury box during Sunday’s game against the New York Jets, and even Travis Kelce admitted that the NFL is “overdoing it a little bit.” In fact, the NFL had to issue a statement to People on Wednesday defending their social media posts around Swift (following KC’s win, the NFL briefly changed its Instagram bio to "The @Chiefs are now 2-0 with @TaylorSwift13 in attendance").
"We frequently change our bios and profile imagery based on what’s happening in and around our games, as well as culturally," the NFL told People. "The Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce news has been a pop cultural moment we’ve leaned into in real time, as it’s an intersection of sport and entertainment, and we’ve seen an incredible amount of positivity around the sport."
That’s some pretty impressive spin from a league that is leveraging the unparalleled popularity of the biggest musician on the planet in order to post the sports equivalent of thirst traps. Here at What’s on Sling, we would NEVER stoop to such a low; we simply provide the information our readers are interested in, and if it gets us clicks, who are we to refuse them?
With that in mind, let’s all enjoy some witty tweets about Taylor Swift’s trip to see the Jets last Sunday. Your next chance to (maybe) watch Taylor Swift watch the Chiefs will be this Sunday afternoon on NFL RedZone, when Kansas City visits the Minnesota Vikings.
