DraftKings is Now on Sling: Here's How to Wager and More
DraftKings is now on Sling. Here's a look at their new Basketball channel, along with everything you need to know to wager.
DraftKings and Sling. There’s a ring to the pairing.
Starting today, all Sling users can now access the new DraftKings Basketball channel in the Sling Guide. With live scores and the latest odds, users everywhere can get the up-to-the-second info on all the NBA games. And if you live in a state with legal sports betting, the new channel should be your last stop before getting in on the action yourself.
Of course, in order to win a game, you must first understand the rules, so we’re here to walk you through the interface and the basics of sports betting. Once you’re ready to get started, new DraftKings users can get a FREE $50 BET with first deposit by using the promo code SLING. Here’s a look at the new DraftKings Basketball channel on Sling and how you can use it to parlay your way to a payday.
When you open the new DraftKings Basketball channel on Sling, the first thing you’ll notice is the main window, which will rotate with scores and the “Big 3” bets from live games across the NBA. The stats window on the right will feature these same three bets for four games at a time, with the teams rotating based on start time. You’ll also see a live ticker with NBA scores along the bottom of your screen. And below the main window, you’ll notice the Sling and DraftKings promo graphic, where you can use your SmartPhone camera to scan the QR Code and go directly to the DraftKings site.
Still, it’s obviously not a good idea to lay a bet if you don’t understand the odds, so here’s a brief overview of the “Big 3” bets you’ll find on the DraftKings Basketball channel.
Point Spread: This is the number of points the team you bet on must win or lose by for the bet to pay out. Using the image above, you’ll see that the Chicago Bulls are listed at -3 under the point spread, while the Los Angeles Lakers are listed at +3. This means that the Bulls must win the game by more than 3 points for the bet to pay out; if the final score is LA 128, CHI 130, those who bet the Lakers at -3 would win, even though the Lakers lost. If Chicago wins by exactly three points, this is known as a PUSH and the original bet will be refunded (potentially minus fees).
Total Points: This wager is also referred to as the “Over/ Under.” Again using the example above, the over/ under line is set at 224 points, so the combined final score would need to be 225 or higher for the “Over” bet to pay out, or 223 points or fewer for the “Under” bet to pay out. In both the Point Spread and Total Points, it’s not uncommon to see a number with half-a-point, like -3.5 or 224.5, ensuring that there will be no ties or “Pushes” in the wagering.
Moneyline: A Moneyline bet is the most straightforward: You’re betting on a team to win, no matter the score or margin of victory. It’s the odds that can get confusing. Once again turning to our trusty Bulls-Lakers game, you can see that Chicago is listed as -143 under the moneyline, while the Lakers are listed as +123. As you might expect, teams with a negative number are betting favorites and therefore have lower payouts, while a positive number wins you more.
Just how much? Moneylines are listed in terms of a hypothetical $100 bet. So if the Lakers have +123 odds, that imaginary $100 would win you $123, for a total payout of $223. If you bet the Bulls at -143, however, you would have to wager $143 to win $100.
If you’re in a state with legal sports betting, you can find dozens of other bets in the DraftKings app, along with plenty of other sports to wager on. The DraftsKings Basketball channel on Sling is just the beginning, and this partnership is only starting to get underway. Think of this as just the first quarter; you’ll want to stick around for the whole game. In fact, we’d bet on it.
