The 149th running of the Kentucky Derby is on May 6. Here's what you need to know about the race and how to stream with Sling TV.
"And DOWN The Stretch They Come..." in the 149th edition of the Kentucky Derby, held at historic Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday, May 6.

The field is set as 20 three-year-old thoroughbreds will enter the starting gate with their sights set on crossing the finish line first and joining legends such as Citation, Secretariat, Seattle Slew, and American Pharoah as Kentucky Derby winners. This will be the first time any of the competing horses will run this far (one-and-a-quarter miles) or against so many other competitors. That unpredictability is what makes the Kentucky Derby one of the most exciting races of the year, for both bettors and casual fans. Questions for this year's Derby include:
- Can trainers Todd Pletcher or Brad Cox win with one of their SEVEN combined entries, including Pletcher's morning-line favorite, Forte?
- Can Japanese horses Derma Sotogake or Continuar take the "Bed Of Roses" and become the first Derby winner bred outside the Western Hemisphere since 1959?
- Will this year's Derby mirror last year's edition, when Rich Strike shocked the racing world by crossing the finish line first at 80-1 odds?
- Or, will something historic and legendary occur as it did FIFTY years ago when Secretariat stopped the clock at 1:59:40, a race record that still stands today!
