Oregon vs Washington: How to Watch and What to Expect

In the 115th edition of the rivalry, #8 Oregon and #7 Washington clash in one of the biggest games of the season. Here's how to watch and what to expect.

For the first time since 2016, ESPN’s College GameDay is headed to Seattle for a massive tilt with College Football Playoff implications. For those new to the scene, these two schools HATE each other, all caps! This is one of the oldest rivalries in college football, with Saturday’s game being the 115th meeting in Border War history. This top ten bout will be the final edition in the Pac-12 Conference before both schools head to the Big Ten next season.

Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and Oregon signal caller Bo Nix will be the protagonists in this one, but the key to the game will be on defense. Which team can get the stop or turnover when they need it? Oregon is much improved on that side of the ball, behind defensive-minded head coach Dan Lanning, while Washington, on the other hand, has shown vulnerabilities stopping the run. A key note to this matchup is that both teams are coming off of a bye week and have had extra time to dial-in on their deficiencies or throw in schemes on both sides of the ball. Oregon knows the pass-happy Huskies will rely on Penix and his crop of wide receivers Rome Odunze, Ja’Lynn Polk, and Jalen McMillan. On the flip side, Bo Nix and the Oregon offense has been in rhythm all season under offensive coordinator Will Stein. The Ducks are versatile and have had success throwing and running the football. Nix has been sharp and boasts a 80% completion percentage, with 15 touchdowns and one interception. Washington’s defense needs to do their part so Penix and company aren’t under pressure the entire game. Being the home team is a massive edge here, but it’s tough not to look at how Oregon has improved on defense and think they can do enough to slow down the Huskies. This one should come down to the wire.
