That’s not a misprint in the subheader: the Clemson Tigers, a perennial college football powerhouse, are 4-4 heading into November. Head Coach Dabo Swinney caught some headlines this week after a radio show caller questioned the Tiger’s head man making $11.5 million while going 4-4 this year. Dabo responded with a five-minute rant, saying to the caller that he was “part of the problem” and that “the expectation was greater than the appreciation.” Now, Clemson will welcome #15 Notre Dame to town, in a game in which the bookmakers have the Tigers as only a three point underdog. Notre Dame has taken care of business since their hiccup against Louisville, which effectively ended their College Football Playoff hopes. Marcus Freeman’s team exploded out of the bye week last week, winning 58-7 against Pittsburgh, while Clemson is coming off back-to-back losses against NC State and Miami. Last year, Notre Dame easily handled Clemson in South Bend, winning 35-14 after jumping out to a 28-0 lead. The biggest question comes down to how motivated the Tigers are. After letting Florida State off the hook earlier this year, Clemson has yet to have that fiery, breakout moment this season. It’s been doom and gloom for Dabo and the program, which has won two national titles in the past seven years. After Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, and South Carolina stand in their way of bowl eligibility. They’ll need the spiciness that Dabo brought to the radio show to get there.
