World Series: Yankees-Dodgers Schedule, Preview, and How to Watch with Sling
October's most iconic rivalry steps to the plate, as the Yankees take on the Dodgers in the World Series. Here's a preview, schedule, and how to watch with Sling.
Last year’s World Series featured the Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers, two teams almost no one predicted would be there (Texas won in five games). This year, it’s the New York Yankees against the Los Angeles Dodgers, two iconic, high-payroll teams that already share a lengthy, unforgettable history in the Fall Classic.
Batter up, indeed.
The Yankees and Dodgers have faced each other a record 12 times in the World Series, most recently in 1981 (the Dodgers took that one in six games). These teams have the presumptive AL and NL MVPs, Aaron Judge for the Yankees and Shohei Ohtani for the Dodgers. And both teams have a former Cy Young winner on their roster: Garrit Cole for the Yankees and an injured Clayton Kershaw for LA.
The brightest stars, the biggest cities, who could ask for anything more?
The 2024 World Series begins Friday, Oct. 25 on FOX, which is available with Sling Blue in select markets, including both New York and Los Angeles. How to Watch the 2024 World Series with Sling
The Yankees-Dodgers World Series will air on FOX, which is available with a subscription to Sling Blue or Orange + Blue in New York City, Los Angeles, and the markets listed below:
New York Yankees

Manager: Aaron Boone
Game 1 Starting Pitcher: Garrit Cole (8-5, 3.41 ERA in the regular season)
Projected Game 1 Starting Lineup:
- Gleyber Torres, 2B
- Juan Soto, RF
- Aaron Judge, CF
- Anthony Rizzo, 1B
- Giancarlo Stanton, DH
- Jazz Chisholm Jr., 3B
- Anthony Volpe, SS
- Austin Wells, C
- Alex Verdugo, LF
Players to Watch: Aaron Judge had a historic season, but his career-long postseason struggles have continued, as he’s hitting just .161 this October. Fortunately for him, Giancarlo Stanton has summoned whatever possessed Judge’s bat in the regular season; Stanton’s four home runs and seven RBI in the five-game series against Cleveland earned him ALCS MVP honors. Juan Soto has also been heating up, as his go-ahead homer in the 10th inning of Game 5 propelled the Yankees to victory. Really, the top five batters listed above have been a lot to handle all year long, helping the Yankees make up for postseason struggles from Jazz Chisholm and Austin Wells. Plus, it’s possible that clutch hitter DJ LeMahieu could be back to provide reinforcements.

Manager: Dave Roberts
Game 1 Startling Pitcher: TBD
Projected Game 1 Starting Lineup:
- Shohei Ohtani, DH
- Mookie Betts, RF
- Freddie Freeman, 1B
- Teoscar Hernández, LF
- Max Muncy, 3B
- Kiké Hernández, CF
- Gavin Lux, 2B
- Will Smith, C
- Tommy Edman, SS
Players to Watch: For a ballclub that has now reached four of the last eight World Series, it should scare Yankees fans to know that this is the deepest, most complete offense the Dodgers have put together yet. All eyes should rightfully be on Shohei Ohtani, a generational talent playing in his first World Series who just put together arguably his greatest season at the plate, and is having a successful (although not-quite-yet-spectacular) postseason that is surely making his old fans in Anaheim green with envy. And right behind him is the always-dangerous Mookie Betts, who knows a thing or two about winning this time of year, as well as Freddie Freeman, who looks to bounce back from an ankle injury (you can already hear the echoes of Kirk Gibson calling). But any player on this stacked Dodger roster should be considered a threat. Just ask newly crowned NLCS MVP Tommy Edman, who batted in 11 runs against the Mets, or October favorite Kike Hernadez, who has batted .303 this postseason, or Max Muncy, who just set the MLB postseason record for reaching base 12 consecutive times. The biggest area of concern for the Dodgers, as it has been all year, is their injury-ridden starting pitching, with the team bringing only three starters to the postseason (and none named Kershaw). Fortunately, the Dodger bullpen has stepped up enormously, with relievers like Evan Phillips, Michael Kopech and Blake Treinen having been the most critical component to the Dodgers’ path thus far. - Andy Wallace
