The Hashashin, led by Hassan El Sabah, are a group of Nizari Ismaili Shia rebels whose mysterious legacy has captured imaginations. Some see them as hedonists living in paradise, while others fear them as a ruthless force in West Asia and North Africa. Their true nature remains elusive.
Hassan El Sabah led the Hashashin from Alamut Castle until he died in 1124 CE, about 35 years after taking control. The order continued until the Mongol invasion, led by Hulegu, which destroyed their fortresses. Despite their demise, the Hashashin's legacy lives on in tales and games like Assassin’s Creed.
Karim Abdel Aziz will portray Hassan El Sabah in the upcoming series "El Hashashin," promising a captivating narrative. The group's history is shrouded in mystery, with their name's origin uncertain. The Mongol invasion in the mid-13th century destroyed much of their records, leaving their story largely untold.
