Watching Local Channels on Sling TV
Figuring out local channel access can be tricky. So, we’re here to help!
Access to local channels like FOX, ABC and NBC can cost hundreds of dollars every year if they were included in your Sling TV subscription. However, you may very well be able to get local channels for free with an Over-the-Air (OTA) antenna connected to your TV!

AirTV
Stream the free local channels you love right from your Sling guide when you set up an AirTV device and an OTA antenna. Simply pair the two with your favorite streaming device, the smart TV Sling app, or the Sling mobile app.
Connect an OTA antenna directly to your TV to check for OTA channel availability in your area prior to purchasing an AirTV device**
Try these steps to see if you can get an OTA signal with an antenna:
- Check for OTA/DTV Reception in your area (FCC.gov) >
- Get help scanning for OTA/DTV channels (FCC.gov) >
If you’re unable to get local channels with your OTA antenna connected to your TV, it is unlikely that you will be able to use an AirTV device to stream local channels. AirTV devices rely on utilizing the signal received from a connected OTA antenna.
**NOTE: Local broadcast channel availability on Sling varies based on geography.
Get Locals in your Sling Guide with a smart TV
Sling Subscribers with smart TVs (2020 models or newer) can plug in an indoor OTA antenna and access local channels directly in their Sling guide.

OTA (Over-the-Air) Antenna
Get live, local programming for free with an OTA antenna connected directly to your television. Using an antenna alone will not grant access to local channels into your Sling TV guide unless you also have an AirTV device and an adequate signal from a local transmission tower.

Local channels are delivered according to your location information. One of a few things could be happening. You could be traveling, or maybe you’ve moved recently!
Another thing to consider is that if you are using mobile wifi, VPN, or proxy server, that alters your location information and gives you different channel access.
Remember, you can still watch anything you've saved in your DVR. Plus, you can start watching anything you're recording now right when the program starts.
A Designated Market Area or DMA is a region usually centered around a large city that determines the programming you'll receive. Markets are usually named for the largest city or cities in that market.
For example: NBC is available for streaming on Sling TV in the DMA of Dallas/Fort Worth - KXAS, but you may still receive KXAS even if you live outside of the Atlanta city limits.
Unlike the other guys, Sling helps you keep your monthly bill low by offering customizable packages and Extras to connect you with the programming that you love - all without forcing you to pay for locals that you can receive for free with an Over-the-Air (OTA) antenna connected to your TV.
We can help you get installed with an outdoor antenna.
If in an eligible market, NBC and/or ABC will show up at the front of your guide when you subscribe to Sling Blue or Sling Orange + Sling Blue.
If you have successfully installed an AirTV device, local channels will also appear in your channel guide and the Local Channels ribbon.
