Blackouts & Viewing Restrictions
Select channels may occasionally "black out" certain games, events, TV shows, and movies. Blackout rules are determined by the leagues, sports associations, content owners, and networks that purchase the rights to these broadcasts. Our agreements sometimes require us to black out content for various reasons. These reasons can include:
Sports blackouts based on eligible viewing areas
Content blackouts based on streaming rights
- Device-specific blackouts, such as content on mobile phones
Additionally, there are times you won’t be able to stream an event because someone else has exclusive rights to it. In these instances, you'll see alternative content and/or on-screen messaging.
Believe You're Seeing a Blackout Message in Error?
Make sure your game isn't on another channel
Sometimes games are blacked out on a local channel, but not the national broadcast. If you see a blackout message when trying to view an NBA, NHL, or MLB game, be sure to check all available channels for your game. National broadcasts for each league are typically available on the following channels:
NFL: FOX, NBC, CBS, ESPN, NFL Network and RedZone
NHL: ABC, ESPN, TNT, TBS, NHL Network
MLB: ESPN, TBS, FOX, FS1, MLB Network
NBA: ABC, TNT, ESPN, NBA TV, NBA League Pass
You can also use the tools below to search for your favorite teams or find out what channel a particular game is on:
NFL: NFL Channel Schedule
NHL: NHL Channel Schedule
MLB: MLB Channel Schedule, MLB.tv
NBA: NBA Channel Schedule, NBA League Pass
Don’t know if you have the right channels? No problem! You can head to sling.com/my-account to see what services you currently subscribe to. You can also head to sling.com to see our packages and never miss a game!
Check your IP address
Depending on your Internet Service Provider (ISP), your IP address could show you in a different location, which could cause you to receive blackout messages in error.
Look up your current IP address location. Make sure you’re using a non-mobile device connected to your home network when you perform an IP lookup search.
